Sarah Cooper, LCSW is the Clinical Director at Resilient Retreat and has developed the structure and format of retreats. She manages those retreats for survivors of abuse and for helping professionals while creating a safe, empathetic place for posttraumatic growth and healing.
Sarah has her MSW from Florida State University and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and Qualified Supervisor in the state of Florida. She is a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP) and has certifications in TF-CBT and adoption-competent therapy. Sarah has over 10 years experience working in mental health non-profits providing trauma-informed therapies, supervision to employees and interns, and overseeing program management. Sarah has enjoyed continuing education at state and local conferences on trauma-informed care, dementia and aging, as well as child welfare and development. Through opportunities at Resilient Retreat, Sarah has become a Certified Community Resilience Model Teacher, certified in Critical Stress Incident Stress Management, and has completed cultural competency trainings through UCF Restores for therapists working with first responders.
Sarah started in the mental health field as a research assistant across three different fields of research. Research projects that she worked on included analyzing courageous behavior, defining nuances between eating disorders, and exploring the efficacy of government funded healthcare programs. Sarah has some diverse experience working as a litigation assistant at a top law firm and for Florida State University’s Office of Research/Institutional Review Board. During her master of social work program, Sarah interned at a crisis stabilization unit as well as a community service board providing counseling and assessments to diverse populations.
After completing her master program, Sarah was a children’s crisis team counselor providing in-home or in-school crisis counseling. Sarah became the program coordinator and supervisor of the crisis team for several years while finishing the requirements for her LCSW. Once licensed, Sarah transitioned to providing outpatient therapy at a local non-profit. Sarah saw clients individually and facilitated groups, couples, and family therapy to clients of all life stages. In addition to direct service, Sarah served as a supervisor for graduate students pursuing their master degree or their state license. Sarah continues to provide supervision to those seeking their LCSW. Prior to starting at Resilient Retreat, Sarah served as a clinical director for a child welfare and behavioral health non-profit during the Covid-19 pandemic.
