March 29 @ 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm

Event Calendar Pro Version!

Event Calendar Pro Version!

Why practice chair yoga?

We practice chair yoga because we want to reap the many benefits of a yoga practice but getting on the floor is either inconvenient or not possible. We want to relieve our stress, learn to breathe effectively, improve our circulation, increase our mobility and flexibility, strengthen our bodies, and seek an overall sense of calm.

The only thing needed is a chair without wheels, comfortable nonrestrictive clothing and an open mind to try something new.

We begin each practice focusing on our breath with clues to deepen our breath to get the most out of this life-giving force.

This is followed by a brief meditation where we simply focus on our breathing.

We then move into series of poses that activate our feet, legs, arms and hands, torso, back neck region and eyes. We learn to coordinate each pose with our breath. Some of the poses are done while seated and some poses will be done standing while using your chair for added stability.

We end each class with a brief meditation.

Yoga is noncompetitive. Not even with yourself. Some weeks you may move into the different poses easily and some weeks not so easily. That is fine. We learn to listen to our bodies and if we need to back off, we do so.

When we focus on our breath with each movement, it leaves no room for our minds to wonder into past situations nor projecting our minds into the future.

We stay present and a wonderful sense of calm, inner strength and courage take over our whole being both during and after class.
